Something Wicked - Soap Opera Digest (by Stephanie Sloane)

Sunset Beach Alum Clive Robertson Returns to the small screen, starring opposite oscar-winner Tatum O'neal.

After turning down a short-term role in mynetworkTV'S WATCH OVER ME, Clive Robertson was offered a bigger, better one: The lead in WICKED WICKED GAMES, where he plays the weathly charmer who is the object of Tatum O'Neal's  (Blythe) obsession. "It was very intresting meeting Tatum, because obviously, she's just one of these almost iconic names you've heard about" he says "I didn't know what to expect. I hadn't read her book and I hadn't heard a lot about her. We got on very well, which is good because we had a fair amount together. She knew her stuff."

Though Robertson made a brief appearance on GH as Simon in 2004, he wasn't  really doing much acting otherwise. "The last few years, I haven't been pursuing the acting very heavily, partly because I needed to make some money," he says candidly "I started designing and building houses, which I've really enjoyed. It's finacially enabled me to make some money, which of course having children [twins Ameila and Alexander, 4], it becomes important in ones life. I felt I should put the acting on the back burner, mostly because its not something you can rely on. I couldn't for example, wait a whole year and not get a job and then work out what I'm going to do next."

The workload of telenovela- filming 65 episodes in three months with multiple camera shots and wardrobe changes was grueling. "In any one day you may be shooting 12 or 15 scences from 15 different episodes and you're running in and out of wardrobe trying to figure out what the hell you're doing," he explains "I was going slightly insane because between wardrobe changes, I was having to go back to my trailer, check my messages and while I'm changing on speaker phone, make calls about the building of these houses. It got a little hairy. It was a little bit like that shooting schedule when I played twins on SUNSET BEACH, which basically made me go crazy."

Once the show wrapped, Robertson headed Down Under "Well my marriage [to Australian actress Libby Purvis] broke up and my children unfortunately, are in Australia as a result of that," he reveals. "I spend every two and a half months trying to get a couple of weeks out there, which has been going on for a year or more. My life has taken a rather strange turn. I don't want to miss out watching them grow up and being a part of there lives, so I have to  make my life fit around that travel schedule. It gets a little tricky, but I'm coping with it. I'm jetlagged all the time, but they are so adorable and wonderful and I can't think of anything else I'd rather do."

Robertson reports that he still keeps in touch with some BEACH pals. "I saw Hank [Cheyne, ex-Ricardo] because he is doing one of these shows and actually, Nick [Stabile, ex-Mark] is also on the same show. Hank came down to San Diego and I sort of passes the torch to him and told him the truths of what he's getting into," he laughs "I had dinner with him a few times, which was nice."

Looking ahead, Robertson plans to keep living his double life. "I'm not going to stop the real estate, but I'm not stopping acting either." he says, "It's funny, I thought that if I did this show, it would make me know what I want to do. I enjoy the acting, but I don't find doing just that quite satisfying enough. I think I get bored too easily. I have a good team of people working with me and we'll see what comes of it."
